Allthread Length

This may sound dumb - but am I supposed to cut this allthread to a specific length before installing? The one provided in the cut feels long. And is that cut length the one reflected in the calculator? Any recommendations on how to cut it?

Cut it off just short of flush with the tubes. I think I did around 1/4 inch. It will still be long enough, but not to long to catch on things later.
