Carbon fiber MPCNC

Hi everyone, just a quick thought.

I was just looking at some large scale (5 x 8 m) 5 axis machines and some like for example this - http://www.compositesworld.com/products/autoscale-composite-cnc-machines use carbon fiber to reduce the weight and thus enable faster feeds, acceleration and deceleration of the machine.

Since the 25/23 mm in 500 mm length carbon fiber tubes are not really that much expensive, do you think that they could be used for the gantry and z axis to gain some advantage over the heavy stainless steel ones?

Nope. The bearings rolling over the tubes will start to delaminate them after a bit. They might work for a while, but they won’t last as long as the steel tubes.

I think you’re right. Probably the chips, especially aluminum, would get pressed into them as well.
