Co2 Laser focusing: the best video explanation I've ever seen

Luckily, a lot of the newer CO2 mount the tube to the moving gantry now to get rid a lot of the path, making it easier to get and keep aligned.

That would be tons easier to deal with. My 100 watt CO2 laser is the old way. I’m trying to work up the motivation to deal with the fact it’s still not aligned right.

PS: My laser tube is actually too long to be mounted to the moving gantry. The end of it sticks out of the entire enclosure and there is a “side box” attached to cover the part that sticks out.

You’d need a pretty beefy machine to drag around the tube anyway.

You need a longer working axis!

I think all those machines are set up to do raster moves on the X axis fast and the Y axis is the one that steps. And for cutting or vector stuff, I bet they limit the max speed if needed. You are right though I think they are typically the smaller CO2 that do it that way, not sure I have seen a 100W like that, but it sure would be nice to see.
