Edge lit sign

I set out to try my hand at milling some Acrylic (not sure it was actual acrylic, but still) and decided to make a small LED sign inspired by this thread: My first "useful" thing made with my mpcnc

I engraved the text with a 4 flute 6 mm 90deg carbide V-bit and milled edges with a 6 mm 1 flute carbide end mill (first time using a tool swap).

I also tried my hand at some flame polishing for the milled edges, which turned out great. Started with sanding away most of the milling marks and then lightly went over the edge several times with a MAPP torch.

As-milled

As-flame polished

Happy with the end result and it was a fun little project involving some MPCNC, 3D printing and electronics. The edge lighting effect was not as good as seen in the previous thread, but I suspect that I need to by some actual acrylic instead of the cheap plastic that I had available. Iā€™m guessing the cheap plastic has more imperfections defusing and spreading the light.
