I started the printing process of my MPCNC and am planning the next steps. I ordered a DW 660 and now I need some end mills. I only know the very basics of them and can’t decide which to buy, can anyone make some recommendations? I plan to mostly cut and engrave wood and possibly acrylic for now. Thanks for your help.
I use a 1/8" upcut 2 flute mill the most, and then some .1mm engraving bits, then an 1/8" downcut 2 flute. Occasionally I’ll use a 1/4" mill.
If you just randomly looked at my router, it’s most likely to have the 1/8" upcut or .1mm engraving bit set up.
What I found was helpful was to go to the local woodworking store (woodcraft) and talk to their people about end mills for 20 minutes. That gave me a lot of detail towards getting started.
I have found a few good dependable sellers and items on ebay that provide good bits.
I am using a Harbor Freight rotary tool with a 1/8" collet.

I mostly use:
1/8" 2 flute upcut
1/8" 2 flute downcut
1/4" 2 flute upcut
1/4" 2 flute downcut
These buts will get the job done for what I am doing which is milling and cutting plywood and MDF.

I’ve been buying these as general purpose bits for our makerspace for a while now. Very feed and speeds friendly.

@Tony I’m going to have to try those out, I am pretty sure that is the hot bit for cutting Carbon Fiber Quadcopter parts, never thought to try in on anything else. Looks like it might be the best beginner bit? Have you found anything it doesn’t work on?
I had only been using some spiral up cut bits and was getting some chipping on plywood but no too bad really and I figured there wasn’t anything I could do about it. I ordered a straight fluted bit and tried it tonight and wow what a difference! I got no chipping at all!
