I am glad I helped even though I mistakenly thought I had the newest version of Inkscape which must have confused you (I have updated Inkscape since your post). This is one thing I really love about the forum, everyone tries to help each other out. Some people have tons of wisdom and are willing to share, I have a little experience and pitch in when I can.

From Inkscape: Select the text you have written, and select Path => Union. All overlapping segments will then be seen as one single path.
