Made with oak from royal German 3-400 year old boat building woods. (Scraps from the building of the world’s largest viking ship, 100 feet long)

Gift for mother in law. Figuring out how to make it taught me many lessons!!

Amazing to be able to work with wood that old! Sure doesn’t look like scrap, nice to see it being used.

Just curious, how many men would’ve typically sailed on a 100 foot boat?

I would love to just touch it scared to death to work something like that

I dunno… Has the moisture stabilized yet, or does it need a few more weeks in the shop?

Rowing would take 100 guys, sailing 12-14. Draken Harald Hårfagre - Wikipedia

The scraps from Draken was actually used to build a smaller boat, 45 feet. The scraps I got are actually from the scrap pile after boat nr two

Nice resource to have! I love the video of the Draken in NY Harbor on
its website. I grew up in the area and you never know what you might see on any given day. :grinning:
