Help with Extruder mounting and lower/raise functions

All,

I am at the point where I need to mount the extruder to the Z mount unit… I have the extruder mount BUT
How does it lower and raise? Its fixed to the two bars so why wouldn’t we mount to the Z assembly?
What am I missing?

Hi James, the metal bars are what move on the z assembly. The plastic parts with the bearings are locked onto the X and Y crosspieces, and the Z tower - made up of the two metal bars, the stepper motor on top, the tool on the bottom, and the lead screw in the middle - move up and down.
