Made in Switzerland

I plan on posting all my cnc projects here.

The thing I made today is a Julius Caesar pen holder bust (thingiverse link).

It’s printed from Spectrum PLA stone age light on my Prusa MK2. I didn’t like the printed base so I cut it off from the model.

The base is made from a piece of oak, it has a recess cut into it where the 3d print is glued in.

The name plate is an engraved piece of brass.

This was my first time working with metal on the MPCNC, and the first time I did an engraving with ESTLCAM. I tried it with a 30° engraving bit at first, but that was completely dull after the first letter. Then I switched to a 60° V carving bit, which stayed sharp even after the entire name was engraved. I think I need to face the spoilboard again, it looks like the right side was a bit higher than the left side. Also I haven’t figured out all the engraving settings, in the 3rd “u” and the “C” there are small diamond shapes and I don’t know why ESTLCAM made them…

But I think overall it turned out great

Cool project with a little bit of everything involved, nice work!

When points aren’t as sharp as the design, it might mean the angle isn’t right on the bit settings. If it cuts too deep, it can also dull points.

Looks great though.
