I still have quite a bit of vibrations when cutting hardwood and was wondering if maybe a more durable mount with more material might be helpful? Or is the “standard” holder enough and should not make any problems?
Is the router moving in the mount? If it’s not moving, a beefier mount isn’t really going to make a difference.
No, it’s not, but something has to be shaking, I just can’t pin it down. It’s not any of the screws, it shouldn’t be the motor, it’s not the speed because it makes the same sound when at lower speeds… Maybe too deep? 3.7mm in hardwood with a 3.175 at nearly max speed on the Makita. Soft wood I can go as low as 3 and go deeper. I really can’t pin it down. The cuts are still really, really precise. Uff.
How large is your work area? The gantry rails will vibrate once the span gets long enough. Mine starts doing that with a 37" Y axis.
30’‘x22’’. Could be the problem, would at least explain why I can’t find the problem.
I also forgot to mention that it gets less the deeper I get. Cutting the third pass on a 10mm board it does not sound so bad.
Mine is worst when drilling, or cutting very small circles.
Slowing the feed rate can help some, to a point. Sometimes varying the cutting RPM helps, too. Not predictably, but if it’s a resonance problem, where the bit is biting at a frequency that resonates with the machine, just changing the speed of the router breaks that cycle. It can be faster or slower, it just needs to be different. A deeper cut also smooths out the resonance a bit… but that’s hard to keep working.
Hardwoods are tricky. I had quite a time of getting some of those to cut reliably.
Thanks so much.
Are all the bearings touching the pipes?
It could also be resonance in the work peiece, changing rpm or DOC can work. Changing how you secure the work may also have an affect. Just a thought… Be interested in what you indentify as improving the issue.
Do you have a video?
Yes. Everything is touchy touchy.

edit: You can see it the most clearly at 0:26, the cable of the router wobbles and the sound is a little different. It sounds worse in reality.
