Overcut in 1 direction only for a dado

I am cutting out a dado with some purchased plans. Is there a way to have it overcut the corner in 1 direction (green squares below, which is past the end of the piece) but not the other (blue squares below)?

EstlCAM doesn’t support that that I’ve seen.

If you want to do that, you will have to change the shape, to add a half circle of your tool size, or slightly larger to the area.

Alternately, if this is the edge of your work piece, you can use the “manual path” tool to make the dado joint area just go larger than your work piece. In order to do this, you will have to adjust your grid size so that the edges of your dado joint fall exactly on the grid. You can then select a rectangle that follows the one edge, continue out past it to about 1/2 of your tool diameter and then pocket that area. This will get what you’re looking for, I believe. You’ll cut a small area of air, but that’s probably OK.

You can also leave the corner and clean it up with a sharp chisel afterward.

This is my likely route.

An excuse to buy a high quality small Japanese flush cut saw. You always need another tool. :grin:

I use this excuse a lot :grinning::grinning:

Or maybe a few sharpening tools :slight_smile:
