So in order of difficulty (easiest first):

  1. Rambo or Rambo Mini purchased from V1 - these will come pre-flashed with firmware and ready to go. The only caveat is that if you purchase these boards from other sellers, you will need flash the board, which usually involves setting up a compile environment.
  2. The SKR Pro 1.2 - On the forum, we see a few more problems with this board than the Rambo boards since there is separate firmware for the control board and the display, but this board is easier to flash since it does not require a compile environment…just put the binary firmware on a card and power up the board/display. Note that the SKR Pro is a bit better for laser work.
  3. Any board that V1 maintains a version of firmware for. You can find firmware versions here.

Once you get beyond #3, you are in the weeds a bit. You will need to configure a version of Marlin for the specific board you purchased. Sometimes this is easy, sometimes it takes some work. Almost always someone on this forum can help you figure it out.
