Are the limit switches optional for the MPCNC?

I started building my MPCNC Primo kit yesterday and noticed that it did not include the Limit Switches.
I thought it was a mistake but now Im not sure if these are optional?
Does this CNC works without limit switches?

You don’t need them. They can also be added down the road once you start using the cnc for a while.

I’ve never used them and been using my MPCNC for 3 years never had a problem

Thank you both for your replies. I bought the limit switches in case I decide to install them in the future.

How do you auto home the machine without them? I would think that sensorless homing on tmc 2208 drivers would fail miserably for CNC work, but not having limit switches would allow the gantry to be out of square every time you fire the machine up

This topic is 2 years old.

But without endstops, you have to have some kind of hard stop to start the machine against. If it starts square, it will stay square, as long as the motors always move in lockstep (they don’t skip steps). Usually it is a 3d printed fixtures or a clamp.
