To be clear, the LCD plus attach to exp1 and exp2, correct? If so, which side does the red stripe on the ribbon cable go, left or right?
50/50 chance and the wrong way will not harm anything.

The rule used to be stripe to the right, but I didn’t know if that held true today.
That one depended on what you were looking at. Generally the stripe was a ground pin, but you’d have to know which pin was a ground. Every now and then we still find cables that have the end put on upside down, that causes all kinds of questions.
I think the way to do it, that I need to add to the instructions, is opposite how it is drawn on the board. There is an outline of the notch, plug them in the other way.
