New Zealand Primo

I am just starting my first build MPCNC Primo. I used to run CNC lathes and machining centers 45 years ago, I’ve been wanting to get back into CNC for a few years, bought myself a 3D printer a year ago, then came across the MPCNC just a few days ago. Are there any members doing this build in New Zealand.

Hi @Tongariro, welcome to and enjoy the “Rabbit Hole” I am from Blenheim building a LR2 at a very slow pace. There are quite a lot of members from NZ that has built and busy building MPCNC’s. If you do a search on “New Zealand” you will find numerous posts from NZers on the forum.

I am also a complete newbie to the whole experience but up to now found all the info needed on the forum and by following the Introduction to The MPCNC - V1 Engineering Documentation pages you cannot go wrong. If you find yourself in a tight spot the help and support from the forum members are absolute fantastic.

Well, when we can stay on topic… things can occasionally go sideways when some joker pops in with a bad joke or well-worn bit of cliched advice. We have to stay vigilant for those rabble-rousers and ne’er do-wells…

Why is everyone looking at me?

Hi Paul,

You are not alone! Recently completed a Primo build after using the Burly off and on for the last couples of years. Based in WN should you be near by and want to see it in the flesh.

Cheers

Hi Mark, what spindle did you use? I was thinking of using the De Walt Dw660 and using my 110V- 240V transformer.

For my current project (mostly cutting out 9mm MDF shapes) I am using a 500W DC spindle I imported via AliExpress. I have also used a cheap and cheerful Ozito router I picked up at Bunnings, it is really loud and apart from having a higher rotational speed, it didn’t seem make much difference so haven’t used it in a while. From what I have read, can’t go wrong with De Walt but not used it myself.

Mark, can you post the link to 500W DC spindle. I used to work for a specialised cutting tool company, so I’ll do a bit of revision on what’s available now.

Hey Kiwi’s - i built the original MPCNC 5y ago - still using it on and off. I found building the machine easier than using it. Like Mark im currently using an Ozito 850w router. Noisy cheap light and some speed control. Prior to that i had a 20K rpm (only) Makita die grinder - way too fast. Ozito is better than Makita!
I cant offer any advice - but totally impressed with the MPCNC - not just the hardware but the community - thats gold standard. https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ozito-850w-router_p0226237 Have fun!

Hi
I’m in Whangarei. A couple of us have lowriders running. I’m using Ali Express as my source. And a 500w spindle.

Hi all, well on with the printing of my MPCNC Primo parts, can’t believe the reaction from my wife when I told her printing the core was more stressful than the birth of our 4 kids. Waiting for the delivery of my parts bundle from Ryan.

Well, I hope it shows up soon so you don’t get me in any more trouble with your wife!

Just make sure you keep it to yourself if you think drawing the crown is “better than sex”.
